350 Kilometres south of Paris, the Limousin
region is the traditional heartland of France. The region is made up of three
departments - La Creuse (23) to the east, Haute Vienne (87) to the west, and
Correze (19) to the south. As one of the lowest populated regions in France, the Limousin has largely escaped the onward march of "progress" and retains some of the most unspoilt countryside in Europe. The Limousin is also known as 'the land of a thousand lakes' and wherever you are in the region there will be one close by. Most are bathing lakes with clear, clean water and often with sandy beaches.
